Materials and Manufacturing Engineering is about the production, properties and behaviour of materials.
The programme is interdisciplinary and incorporates physics, chemistry, mathematics and mechanics. You will learn to optimise, control and predict the materials' properties and behaviour. You might work with materials for the automotive or the aircraft industry, for medical equipment, communication products, the food industry, energy production or sports equipment.
Three main areas are covered:
- Processing Technology
- Characterisation and Modelling
- Properties and Design
Teaching varies between lectures, classroom instruction, exercises and project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.
The final 6 months will be spent writing your MSc thesis. The thesis is a scientific research project, often carried out in collaboration with one of university's industrial partners.
