International Security and Law

The master programme in International Security and Law provides the skills needed to understand and manage international conflicts.

The programme focuses on the integration of the political, juridicial and ethical dimensions of conflict in an assessment that can be used as a basis for solving conflicts by international organisations.

Graduates will be qualified to work for organisations that are involved in analysing, managing and solving conflicts. These can be private or public organisations, e.g. government ministries, NGOs and international organisations such as the UN and NATO.

About the programme

The course in international security and law covers knowledge from the social science domains of law, political science and ethics.

The course focuses on the fundamentals of modern conflict; power, law and ethics. By studying both former and current conflicts you will learn how to produce analyses and conflict solution models.

The programme consists of core courses, electives and a thesis.

The core courses are:

Introduction to International Law
International Order since 1815
History of the Law of Nations
New Wars and Conflict
The Laws of War
The Ethics of War and Peace

Teaching varies between lectures and classroom instruction. In addition, there is often project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.

If you choose to complete the master degree programme, you will graduate with the academic title of Master of Social Sciences (MSc) in International Security and Law.

Entry Requirements

To be admitted to an MSc programme, you must have a bachelor degree in a relevant subject.

In addition, documentation may be required verifying your proficiency in English is at a specified level.

Tuition

There is a tuition fee for all full-degree students, unless you are a student from an EU/EEA country, or from Switzerland.

Students within an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.

An academic year is made up of two semesters, which begin around September 1st and February 1st.
