MA Programme

Linguistics

Linguistics is the scientific study of human language. You will work with all aspects of language; both spoken and language made of signs, e.g. written language.

On the master programme you will expand the knowledge of the subject and its methods that you gained at bachelor level. You will be able to specialize in one or more of the many areas in which linguistic knowledge of language is used.

Career opportunities for linguists include jobs in e.g. communication, information and IT. They also work with aphasia patients, language technologies, consultancy and project work, teaching and research.

About the programme

The Master’s degree programme advances your knowledge about language and linguistics.

You will gain further insights into language structures, meaning in language and language use.

You will be given the tools to work independently and methodologically with language, text and talk, and the opportunity to carry out your own research.

Linguistics is the most abstract of the linguistic subjects because you don't learn a specific language; instead you study the common characteristics of all languages.

Teaching varies between lectures and classroom instruction. In addition, there is often project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.

If you choose to complete the master's degree programme, you will graduate with the academic title of Master of Arts (MA).

Entry Requirements

To be admitted to an MA programme, you must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.

In addition, documentation may be required verifying your proficiency in English is at a specified level.

Admission

Tuition

There is a tuition fee for all full-degree students, unless you are a student from an EU/EEA country, or from Switzerland.

Students within an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.

An academic year is made up of two semesters, which begin around September 1st and February 1st.
