Arab and Islamic Studies

The master programme in Arab and Islamic Studies focuses on society, culture and history. You will study different aspects of the Arab and Islamic world, including the contemporary era, and gain a wide knowledge of Islam and Muslims around the world.

You will continue to develop your skills in Arabic and you will be able to do your internship in Denmark or the Arab world.

The programme provides the opportunity to work in many different fields such as; tourism, the media, the intelligence service, social work, refugee support or in the private sector with companies that have activities in the Arab world.

About the programme

On the master programme you will not only focus on social conditions in Arabic speaking countries but also on the culture of countries that have a large concentration of people with an Arabic or Islamic background.

You will use culture, society, religion, politics and history to analyse Islam and Muslims in the modern, globalised world.

You will further develop your competencies in both written and spoken Arabic using original texts.

Teaching varies between lectures and classroom instruction. In addition, there is often project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.

If you choose to complete the master's degree programme, you will graduate with the academic title of Master of Arab and Islamic Studies (MA).

Entry Requirements

To be admitted to an MA programme, you must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.

In addition, documentation may be required verifying your proficiency in English is at a specified level.

Tuition

There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students, unless you are a student from a Nordic or EU country, or from Liechtenstein.

Students within an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.

Semester Start

An academic year is made up of two semesters, which begin around September 1st and February 1st.
