Modern Languages and International Communication

The programme combines foreign languages and communication. You will learn to work with international communication tasks for companies and organisations.

The programme is comprised of three main components:

• Foreign language 1 and 2, where oral and written language skills are strengthened. Foreign language 1 is German for native speakers of Danish and Danish for students with a native language other than Danish. The second foreign language is English.
• Cultural and Intercultural Communication, where you learn about communicating with a company’s international contacts and study how companies and organisations function. You will also learn to analyse business culture.
• Ancillary subjects, which covers Information and Communication Technology (ICT) together with the philosophy and methodology of science.

Teaching varies between lectures, classroom instruction and project work in groups. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions. You will be able to study abroad or take an internship on the fourth semester.

If you choose to complete the bachelor degree programme, you will graduate with the academic title of Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Modern Languages and Intercultural Communication.

The general admission requirements for international students include one of the following international certificates: the Danish/French Baccalauréat (DFB), the European Baccalaureate (EB), the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) or another foreign qualifying examination certificate that can be equated with a Danish upper secondary school leaving certificate.

In addition, documentation may be required verifying your proficiency in English is at a specified level.

The application deadline is March 15 for a course start in September. Admission is handled through The Danish Coordinated Application System. You can apply via optagelse.dk.

A few educational institutions offer a course start in February, where applications are sent directly to the institution. Contact the educational institution for detailed information on application deadlines.

Exchange students should contact their home institution for information on application procedures and deadlines.

Tuition

There is a tuition fee for all full-degree students, unless you are a student from an EU/EEA country, or from Switzerland.

Students within an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.

Semester Start

An academic year is made up of two semesters, which begin around September 1 and February 1.

You can study Modern Languages and Intercultural Communication in Sønderborg.

University of Southern Denmark

At the University of Southern Denmark, Modern Languages and Intercultural Communication can be studied as a 3-year BA programme (180 ECTS).

You can also take single courses or subjects within the programme.
